Viviano
Pulvirenti, aka Gamba the Lenk was born in Milan in a
family originally coming from Sicily. He grew up in a district of
Milan called Barona and his childhood was filled up with music, he
studied flute and enjoyed himself playing guitar. He got closer to
reggae music in '98 and started going to the dancehalls in social
centres of Milan. In 2002 the passion for this music made him start
writing some songs and then he met Catchy, another reggae
maniac, who let Gamba listen to some riddims produced by himself.
The two began recording songs and working together, finally founding
the "X-treme Entertainment" crew, taking active part in the
reggae movement all around Milan. It was the time in which the
dancehalls over the park of Montagnetta began, time of street
parades, and time for their shows to be in the best known yards of
Milan. In 2006 X-treme published their first self-made
product with their own label called "Greezly Production"; in
this CD Gamba continued singing tunes with impressive choruses and
irie mood. The foundation of the crew was celebrated with an
inaugural night at Barrio's in the district of Barona; their
first appearances after that night were often at Approdo Caronte
by the dock of Darsena in Milan. In the summertime began the saga of
Montagnetta, with those dancehalls under the sky which gave
the first moments of glory to a new generation of sounds from Milan
(X-treme and Irie Soldiers with the veterans Foppa
30). In that period the selector Speakeasy became member
of the crew. In autumn the sound became even more active in the
city; they kept on pushing good vybz at the Ohbej and
regularly play in Sinigallia near Papi's stall. During
the years after the crew continues his quest to find places for
music playing in some of the best locations in Milan (Pergola,
H2O, Leoncavallo, Torchiera, Pow Wow, Magnolia, Soul to Soul, Paci
Paciana...), setting up a weekly dance at Storto club and
inviting as guests some of the best sounds of the region.
From 2005 Gamba the Lenk is the speaker together with
Speakeasy of the weekly radio show called "Entertainment"
on Radio Onda d'Urto (www.radiondadurto.org).
In the summer of 2006 X-treme played in "Barcelona Connection"
with their night shows at Xpressing and Reggae Factory
with Blackup Sound from Barcelona. In the meanwhile the
productions were collected into a first showcase CD, actually
originating the collaboration with Segnale Digitale.
